Ribbon Butterflies - How To...

Diane asked how to make the ribbon butterflies I showed in yesterday's post, so here, by request is a quick how-to for making them. These are great for a fun, quick card. Cut 3 pieces of co-ordinating ribbons to about 4 - 5 inch lengths. (This is sort of arbitrary - if you need smaller butterflies, where you want to do 2 or 3 on a card, you'll need shorter lengths.) If you're good at holding stuff and doing stuff at the same time, scrunch up two of the ribbons in the middle. I like using glue dots to hold the creases so that my hands are free to do the antennae. Fold the skinniest length that will be your antennae in half. Keep that loop at the top of the backside of your butterfly and bring the ends down and around the front of the butterfly, and slide them through the loop. Then tie a granny knot (like the first step of tying your shoes) to keep the loop from sliding. Trim the ribbon ends on an angle and to the length desired. Adhere to your cardfront or scrapbook page with a strong adhesive like glue dots or Terrifically Tacky Tape. I just adhere mine under the "body" of the butterfly. Here's one on a finished card.
