Frayed Fishy

This card is a CASE of one by ipkstampshappy over at SplitCoast. I changed the colours to work with the In Colour line, since it is soon retiring, and I eliminated a few layers to keep us moving on Wednesday night. We coloured the (retiring) lobster with watercolour pencils and blender pen, and used the blender pen to pick up some colour from the Cool Caribbean ink pad to fill in the starfish. The lobster is popped on a dimensional over a background stamped in Cool Caribbean with the dotted stamp from the also retiring By Design set. We wheeled the Fishy wheel (incredibly, not retiring) in True Thyme and across the white (you can just get one rotation, so this technique only works for cards.) The True Thyme cardbase is stamped in True Thyme with the Crosshatch background stamp (yet another retiring set - are you picking up on the theme?) Now for the ribbon technique: I used glue dots to adhere the black grosgrain kittycorner across the lower right corner of the focal image. Then we tied the turquoise ribbon on and did the frqying technique on it, and stuck a brad through the centre of the knot to be sure it wasn't going anywhere. I promised to show you how to do the frayed ribbon technique. It is really easy, so here goes: Using a sharp pair of scissors, like SU!'s Paper Snips, and trimming as close to the edge as possible, cut the selvage off one side of your length of grosgrain. Start to pull the hidden fibres loose and keep working them, until you are right up to the other selvage. Trim off both selvages, leaving par to fthe grosgrain in one complete piece. Now you are ready to tuck the still-intact end of your grosgrain under a tag, or fray both ends and leave the middle intact like we did on this card. I like to fray two or three different colour and layer them like I did here: There could be some uses for this piece, depending on the colour... How about grass? Bangs? Moustache? toothbrush? caterpillar? What do you think? Any ideas?
